The Museum of World Cultures
The new Museum of World Cultures has a Learning Room where Playmedia has used both innovation and technology. The space has a large interactive table designed and created especially for this project. The table has a sizeable state-of-the-art multi touch screen that allows various users to interact simultaneously with different world maps and travel albums. It has four tactile screens, each with personalized sound. Visitors can use these tactile information points to look up key aspects of the cuisine, music, writing and languages of the diverse cultures portrayed in the Museum rooms. Illustrative videos of recipes from around the world, sound recordings in extinct languages, sentences written in arcane alphabets; these are just some of the features of these interactive screens. The space closes with an emblematic intervention in an area called ‘Tales of the World’ where 10 videos show fables from all over the world using the Chinese shadow techinique. Each tale is set in the context of the culture and environment of the place of reference and the whole piece is narrated in 4 languages.
